Went to gym for HCDCC member and good friend, Alicia Altimirano. Ran all over Columbia running errands. Did tasks for Dem Party LGBTQ+ Leadership and Diversity Council. Worked on rocoinhoco.com article about my BFF and inspiration, Becca Niburg. Worked on GVP display with another BFF and HoCo Dem activsit royalty, Miss Carole Fisher.
I met Herb Smith at Syriana Cafe and Gallery in Old Ellicott City and interviewed him about his being admin for the Biden for Maryland Facebook page for RoCoInHoCo. Called Amanda Miller at Nail Candy Shop to tell her that my Pride-themed nails made it through HoCo’s first Pride on June 29th, 2019.
While a few of my friends and my sister rubbed elbows at a Grassroots fundraiser, pictured above, I met with fellow planners Jumel Howard and Erica Tang to continue figuring out what shape HoCo Pride 2019 (its first!) will take at the Savage Branch of the Howard County Public Library.

Memory is inherently subjective, flawed, and self-serving. The moment something’s over, we start remembering it in a way that serves some purpose, whether we’re aware of it or not.
When the 2018 Gubernatorial Primary was winding down in HoCo, it was time to get rid of all our acoutrements that we’d accumulated over the past year-and-a-half or so…or so the logic went. I couldn’t bring myself to throw away my candidate walk-lit, as they call it.
Took food donations from the HoCo Dems holiday party to the Community Action Council’s Howard County Food Bank. Worked on article about Bryan Coster, labor organizer.
Went to Courthouse offices swearing in. It was standing room only! Ate food at the reception afterward. One of my tips for politi-events is always eat (even if, as in my case that day, you already have). Also, if it’s an event you’ve paid for (which this wasn’t, albeit), then you need to get your money’s worth.
My aunt, Dr. Azra Raza, had sent an invitation to a fundraiser she does every year called the Nearness of Your Concert. It raises funds for cancer research. This year, like last year, Hugh Jackman is set to host. Bill and Hillary Clinton, Joe and Jill Biden, James Taylor, and others will be on-hand.
HoCo Dem Clubs holiday party was from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Ridgley Run Community Center in Jessup. Was fun! I was doing double duty as Vice President of the Ellicott City and Western Howard Democratic Club and At-Large Board Member of the Columbia Democratic Club.
Looking back on it 11 months later, it feels like a full-circle moment in my life that my sister, Dr. Zaneb Beams, M.D. suggested I volunteer with Byron MacFarlane’s campaign for Register of Wills here in Howard County. My first meeting with him over Korean food amidst the hustle and bustle of the Whole Foods in downtown Columbia set in motion one of the best years of my life.
